Huddersfield Star Wheelers

A new identity and cycling kit for one of Yorkshire's oldest cycling clubs

A proudly accessible organisation, Huddersfield Star Wheelers are a leading West Yorkshire cycling club

Tasked by members of the club to create both a new visual identity and an updated kit design, this project called for an aesthetic which will appeal to a wide audience.

Uncovering vast amounts of information through research, everything from the ‘golden age’ of cycling in the 50s and 60s, to the club’s links to the Socialist ‘Clarion Club’ were investigated. Over 100 years has been accessed in the research of this project.

Making use of historical source material and referencing the rich visual culture and social history of the Wheelers’ past, whilst appreciating modern-day influences from the world of competitive cycling and fashion, Huddersfield Star Wheelers’ new identity hopes to strike a balance of both looking back and but also rolling forwards towards the future.

The Jersey design also has to fully adhere to British Cyling rules to be used in competition, someting which was very important to the racers of the club.
